It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and forget what really matters to you. Think about it – what do you really want to do before you die? What if you could write it on a wall for the world to see, with the possibility that someone out there could help you make your dream come true? Take Heart Events is doing just that!

About the Global Project

The Before I Die project is a global art project that invites people to reflect on their lives and share their personal aspirations in public space. The project was started by Candy Chang on an abandoned house in New Orleans after she lost someone she loved. It was all an experiment. By the next day the wall was entirely filled out and it kept growing. Over 150 Before I Die walls have now been created in more than 10 languages and in more than 30 countries. Learn more about the first wall here.

About the Tulsa Project

In the Spring of 2013 Tulsa’s first Before I Die wall was built and placed in the “back alley” courtyard of Back Alley Blues and BBQ in downtown Tulsa. The project was sponsored and presented by Take Heart Events.

Tulsa was the first project in the series to create a contest to go along with the project. Tulsans could post pictures of their wall submissions and once a month one lucky person would be selected to have their dream fulfilled. We were able to raise fund to send one lucky winner, Andrea Clarke, to Boston to run in the Marine Corp Marathon!

Unfortunately, a freak wind storm destroyed our wall in the Summer of 2013.

Here’s some press about the wall from 2013:

The Future of the Tulsa Project

It’s time to rebuild and bring back this global art project to Tulsa! Take Heart Events is excited to be presenting and sponsoring the project again, but we need your help. Our new vision for this project is to create multiple custom walls and boards that will be displayed in multiple locations. By doing this we will be able to share the project with many more Tulsa’s in a variety of environments. We are raising money for this project now until March 28, 2015 on Kickstarter. Visit our campaign at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1915380109/before-i-die-project-tulsa

Host sites we are looking for include parks, restaurants, bars, fitness studios and really any local business or organization that will have us and welcome creativity from their guests and customers! All host sites will be listed on our mini-site (http://beforeidie.cc/site/tulsa) .

The Contest

We created the contest to promote all the amazing things Tulsa has to offer and prove that many things you would like to do “before you die,” can be achieved right here in Tulsa. We want to bring the contest back too. Once the first wall is installed, Tulsans will be able to submit their dreams into the contest by posting a picture of what they wrote on the wall on either Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #BeforeIDieTulsa. One winner will be selected each month by the contest committee and their wish will be fulfilled right here in Tulsa by partnering with local businesses and organizations or through money raised from this campaign.

How will the contest winners be selected?

We are currently working on forming a committee of volunteers that will get together once a month to select the monthly contest winners.

Winners will be selected based on how achievable the wish is. The committee will be in charge of going out in the community to look for partners (businesses and organizations) that can help sponsor or fulfill wishes. Committee members are not eligible to win the contest.

If you are interested in serving on the committee, please contact Chelsea McGuire at chelsea@takeheartevents.com

Why $3,000?

After doing some research and crunching the numbers, we came up with a goal of $3,000. This is a little higher than the average cost for this project (most are around $1,500-$2,000), but we will be using the money collected to create and maintain multiple custom walls and boards for multiple host sites around Tulsa. We will also be using the funds raised to help fulfill the wishes of our contest winners and document their journeys through mini-documentaries that we will post on the mini-site (http://beforeidie.cc/site/tulsa) and share on our social media. These mini-documentaries will further promote our vision that you can fulfill your dreams in Tulsa!

Please consider donating to our Kickstarter campaign running until March 28, 2015. We have some fun perks, including a tickets to the project kick-off party when we reach our goal! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1915380109/before-i-die-project-tulsa
